International & Mainland JEE (Non-local) Students


Embracing a global outlook and international ambiance, HKUST welcomes foreign students from any corner of the globe to study in Hong Kong. Students from geographical origins other than Hong Kong and holding international or non-DSE qualifications are usually termed as international, non-local, Mainland China, Mainland JEE, non-JUPAS and/or non-local degree seeking students.

Welcome all international and mainland JEE students. Hope you have a smooth transition and feel at home at HKUST and Hong Kong. The checklist should help you identify useful and important activities to kick start your university study and life here.

All new students are also invited to attend various Enrichment Talks, Tours and Workshops

Jul - Aug  

  • Activate your HKUST network/ ITSC account at (refer to email notification)
  • Attend Academic Advising & Peer Mentoring sessions (these sessions are very useful and critical for your class pre-enrolment; refer also to respective Schools' orientation information, SBM, SSCI, SENG, SHSS, IPO & individual email notifications for details; absence from these sessions may affect your study progress)

Jul 3-13  Apply Student Accommodation (student who missed the above round of application, please contact for late application arrangement)

Aug 7 onwards  Enroll English Language Proficiency Assessment - ELPA

Aug 8 onwards  Enroll Getting Started & HLTH1010 

Aug 19  Check-in @Student Residence Hall (10:00 onwards)

Aug 19-21  Airport Pick-up Service

Aug 20-21  Complete Program Registration and Collect of Student Card in person (refer to the email notification

Aug 20-24  

  • Attend ELPA Written 
  • Attend ELPA Speaking 

Aug 21 onwards  Check class pre-enrollment results via "Student Centre" in myPortal

Aug 22  Attend Orientation for Non-local Students at LT-A (09:30 - 11:00

Aug 23-24  Attend Getting Started & HLTH1010 

Aug 24  Enroll first term classes via myPortal

Aug 25-27 Join University-wide Orientation

Aug 29  Attend "On Your Mark! Get Set!" (for international students) 

Aug 31  Attend "University Years To Go" (for Mainland JEE (Non-local) Students) 

Sep 3 Commencement of Academic Year of 2018/19 - First Day

Sep 3-15 Add/ Drop Classes via myPortal
